Talking Rivers

November 2011

Thanks to funding from Cumbria Community Foundation and the Order of Women’s  Freemasons Lodge Lancaster No. 321 we have been able to upgrade our IT equipment to improve our presentations to community groups and schools. Our talks are proving popular and help us to explain our work whilst highlighting the importance of protecting and restoring the Lune catchment for future generations. If you would like us to come and talk to your group or school, please contact our Secretary (Sarah Littlefield).

The photograph left shows our chairman (Mick Jackson) receiving a cheque from the Women’s Freemasons Lodge.

SEDBERGH JUNIOR SCHOOL

One of the first Talking Rivers projects was with Sedbergh Junior School.  Our Secretary had visited the school earlier to talk about the work of the Lune Rivers Trust and Year 4 were so interested in the work that they decided to produce their own presentations expanding on what they had learned. Each pupil chose a species under threat and then presented their work to our Chairman and Secretary to judge, awarding prizes to every pupil for their excellent work and special awards to the top three presentations. The class are now eagerly awaiting the opportunity of some field work later this year.
